Now here’s a creative new use for old handbags.
Note: If you have unwanted purses that are still usable, e.g., not torn/ripped, consider giving them away — perhaps to a friend, or to a local charity that accepts donations of such items — or sell them, instead of using them as garden accessories!

Feet at Ashish Spring 2012.

wetbehindthears:

I am now thinking of ways that I can implant a little vase on my shoes or somewhere on my body so that I can wear live flowers. Maybe one of those things they put grooms flowers in.

hyperallergic:

Stevie Famulari’s new Green Line series — currently on view at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota — has fashioned five “elegant” garments (an opera gown, an asymmetrical gown, a lawn coat, a wedding gown and a laced gown) that are seeded with living plants and will grow, change and reseed themselves over the course of their lifetimes.
The garments are lined with waterproof material and are completely wearable.

This is another great addition to both the wearable gardens and art categories of Gardens in Unexpected Places.

Wearable planter clothing, designed by Egle Cekanaviciute. (via Design For Mankind)
Perhaps not as practical to wear as this planter-jacket, but still an intriguing idea.

No time to head to the forest or the beach? Bring nature to you by stepping into a pair of insoles made with living moss or river rocks. Created by Kristin Neidlinger [and not yet in production], Natura is a line of shoe inserts designed to augment balance and reconnect the body with nature. The “Pathos” range uses all-natural elements, gathered locally near Mendocino Headlands State Park, that Neidlinger plants into a 100 percent latex footbed. Combined with a wireless audio device that plays the sounds of nature, the shoes transport you to a more tranquil path.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that if I had one of these jackets, I would wear it. (With or without wheatgrass!)

This is a size 6 black stiletto, upcycled of course into a new life. I removed the top of the shoe, sanded it, drilled holes for drainage, and then planted it with a stetsonia coryne cactus.
